Real Madrid 6 - 1 Deportivo La Coruña | Sunday October 3 2010
A simple conversion for Gonzalo Higuain and a Ze Castro own goal in the second half added to goals before the break from Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria.

At 5-0, a consolation from Juan Rodriguez failed to spoil the Madrid party and it was left to Ronaldo to cap off proceedings with his second in the dying moments of the game.

The home side dominated from the moment the referee blew his first whistle and looked determined to improve their goal difference with wave after wave of threatening attacks.

Deportivo set up with a narrow defensive formation in an attempt to stifle the inevitable onslaught but any hope of a shut-out was blasted away after just five minutes.

Ozil delivered a teasing corner kick into the six yard area allowing Ronaldo to open the scoring with a well-timed header.

Seemingly not content with their early one goal lead, Real continued to pile on the pressure with unrelenting ferocity against a startled Deportivo side.

Di Maria had a chance to double the advantage after he was teed up by compatriot Higuain but could only fire his shot straight at a grateful Manu in the Deportivo goal.

Without a sign of anything resembling an attacking threat of their own, Deportivo were forced into a constant show of containment but were unsuccessful as Madrid wrenched open the first half floodgates.

Just before the half hour mark Ozil looked to have missed his chance to get on the scoresheet when he failed to take on a shot.

Instead the German playmaker turned on to his favoured left side and guided the ball beyond Manu and into the far corner for his first goal in Madrid colours.

The lively Di Maria was next to join the goalscoring party with Madrid's third after latching on to Higuain's pinpoint cross to beat Manu at the near post with a powerful header.

A new half but Deportivo decided against regrouping and they were quickly punished for not making the most of their first chance of the match.

Having failed to beat Iker Casillas when through on goal, Lassad could only watch in despair as Higuain gave him a demonstration of how it should be done with a clinical finish at the other end just minutes later.

Jose Mourinho's men were beginning to carve out a reputation for being shy in front of goal this season with only seven goals from their five games and they looked determined to brush off such a tag by capitalising on the opportunity presented to them by the ineptitude of their opponents.

And Deportivo's Ze Castro was only too keen to assist by slicing the ball into his own net from six yards under pressure from the charging Marcelo.

Madrid were robbed of their clean sheet as Rodriguez was rewarded for daring to venture into Casillas's penalty area and nod home at the far post ahead of Marcelo.

But Ronaldo ensured that his side had the final say with a well taken solo effort for Madrid's sixth minutes before the referee's final whistle brought Deportivo’s miserable night to its conclusion.
